[ARCHIVED] Futuristic pilot launches with new market season

FBTX ~ A futuristic-looking smart pole, the KitstiK™, has 'landed' in The Grove @ Mustang Crossing, in conjunction with the 2018 Farmers Branch Twilight Market kickoff.

The City of Farmers Branch, Texas is staking a claim for progressive, forward-thinking solutions

with a small cell/smart city pilot, featuring the KitstiK™ from nepsa solutions, a self-contained, dual-carrier small cell light pole with integrated smart city applications.

"We're a small city of around 33,000 and while we have different challenges than our much larger neighbors, we're still part of the greater DFW community," said Farmers Branch Mayor Robert Dye. "Technology solutions that work in large cities should be scalable to meet the needs of every community."

In conjunction with the City of Farmers Branch, Texas, team members from nepsa solutions, AT&T, Ericsson and Current, powered by GE are piloting nepsa's smart pole, the KitstiK™, with two installations in city parks.

AT&T Smart Cities Digital Infrastructure with Current, powered by GE's CityIQ™ provides energy & data solutions that can make a city a more vibrant place to work, live and play, helping to improve quality of life issues like traffic congestion and public safety.

The pilot program is expected to run from May through September and includes small cell technology, efficient LED lighting, live video feed, traffic analysis and parking view applications.

"With this pilot," said Mayor Dye, "the nepsa team is helping Farmers Branch become one of the first cities in North Texas to make a giant leap toward our becoming a progressive, forward-thinking city of the future."
