JOB WELL DONE: Fire Chief Steve Parker announces retirement

FBTX ~ After 32 years in the fire service, the past 20 in Farmers Branch with nine years as Fire Chief, Steve Parker has announced his intent to retire from service on August 4.Fire Station 2 front entry exterior

   The announcement comes on the heels of the Fire Department opening its newest, state-of-the-art facility - Fire Station No. 2 at Holiday Park, near Valley View and Alpha, across from Brookhaven College.

   "I have had the privilege to work with an outstanding group of professionals who served our community with honor and dedication," Chief Parker said. "During my tenure as Chief, the Fire Department received the resources needed to serve a growing City of soon-to-be 50,000 residents."

   Among his proudest accomplishments, Chief Parker lists the construction and operation of two new fire stations, creation of the North Texas Emergency Communications Center, construction of the Joint Fire Training Center and the ISO Class 1 certification accorded to Farmers Branch, reflective of superior fire service coverage.

   "Any one of these projects is a career event and I was lucky enough to part of all of them," he explained. "With the opening of new Fire Station No. 2, my strategic plan for the Fire Department is now complete. Now is the time to step aside and allow the next generation to lead the Fire Department forward."
