FBTX ~ A phased renovation of the 16-year-old Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center will begin soon with an overhaul of the first floor, including expanded fitness and childcare areas, new look to walls and surfaces, and relocation of the welcome desk.
The additional 9,300 square foot fitness area will provide members with a more robust workout experience and allow for greater social distancing. The renovation comes at a great time as the City’s population has soared by nearly 20 percent in the past year. As more families are calling Farmers Branch home, the Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to grow with the City by offering safer, larger, and enhanced exercise, wellness, childcare, and recreational spaces at the Community Recreation Center.
Work will begin while the facility is still closed for COVID-19 and is expected to take six to eight months when the project gets underway. Once the state of Texas gives the go-ahead for 50 percent occupancy of gym facilities, officials expect to reopen the second floor of the Rec Center for working out only, with showers and locker rooms remaining temporarily closed.
