[ARCHIVED] Evictions are halted during COVID crisis

Eviction sign crossed out

FBTX ~ As the first of the month typically means rent is due for tenants in Farmers Branch and across Texas, there is important information that everyone should know about special measures that have been taken to help Texans that are impacted by the economic hardships wrought by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis.

In March, the Texas Supreme Court issued an order, halting evictions statewide through April 19. Then, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins added to the Court by extending the eviction ban through May 20 in Dallas County.

Officials say it is important to note that rent is still due and late fees can still apply. The government orders are simply to keep people from being evicted for non-payment during the national health emergency. Tenants should contact their landlords directly to work out details or for additional information.
