Farmers Branch Comprehensive Plans
The purpose of a comprehensive plan is to develop an overall vision for the development of the City of Farmers Branch, to ensure preservation and enhancement of the existing amenities, and to encourage efficient and beneficial growth. The Farmers Branch Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 1989. The Comprehensive Plan has been updated in three phases based on geographic areas, East Side Plan, West Side Plan and Central Area Plan.
The Central Area Plan was adopted by City Council in 2012 to guide and direct future development decisions made by City staff, elected officials and all other decision makers. This document is intended to present a comprehensive, area-wide framework for the Central Area. This is a flexible long-range planning tool that guides the growth and physical development of the Central Area of Farmers Branch for 20 years.
The East Side Comprehensive Plan was adopted by City Council in 2017. The East Side Plan, is a vision and road map for the City's East Side. The plan will help guide land use or development decisions and where to make capital investments in regards to infrastructure and public amenities.

The IH-35E Corridor vision study provides a road map for development, and public infrastructure investments within the IH-35E corridor for the next 20 years, including land uses (such as industrial, office, commercial, and residential), and the public realm. The vision study envisions the creation of a modern urban industrial district with opportunities for mixed use development and highway-oriented commercial amenities, in order to leverage existing assets and increased property values along the corridor.
Analysis and public consultation provided information necessary for the consultant team, led by Interface Studio, to develop the Draft IH-35E Corridor Vision Study. On January 11, 2021 the Planning & Zoning Commission conducted a public hearing and unanimously recommended approval of the IH-35E Corridor Vision Study. Following the Commissions recommendation, City Council conducted a public hearing and unanimously adopted the vision study on February 2, 2021.
