The Barney Wood Bark Park!
You asked for it and doggone it, you got it!
The Barney Wood Football Field at Don Showman Park will be transformed into the Barney Wood Bark Park. The 1.44 acre field, located next to the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center, will be revitalized into a large and small dog area. Why a dog park?
You expressed the desire for a park to enjoy with your beloved canines in Farmers Branch. Reports suggest that dog parks may decrease property damage, promote positive social behaviors for dogs and their owners, and build a stronger community.
Barney E. Wood was a respected mainstay of the Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation board for 29 years, 13 as chairman. Barney's steady hand and leadership contributed to the emergence of Parks and Recreation and the development of youth sports in Farmers Branch. From the construction and maintenance of the fields, to coach and league coordinator, Barney was there! On October 12, 2002, the city of Farmers Branch honored Barney's exemplary service with the dedication of the Barney E. Wood Athletic Complex.
Barney's legacy continues to be shared with citizens of our community and their four legged friends.

Donations are good for as long as the park is in existence. All donations are tax deductible.
Your donation provides a place to sit and relax while your dog is running safely within the park. You will receive a plaque displaying your name and/or your dog's name. You can choose either our City in a Dog Park bench option or a stone bench option.
