Department Structure & Responsibilities

The Farmers Branch Finance Department includes the administration, accounting, information services, purchasing, and municipal court divisions. The finance department is dedicated to providing quality financial and information services to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction in a manner that is effective, efficient, equitable, and courteous.

The responsibilities of the finance department are to:
  • Develop and implement financial accounting policies and procedures
  • Contract for the purchase of goods and services in compliance with city policies and State laws
  • Protect and optimize the financial resources of the city
  • Provide a sound accounting system for safeguarding the city's assets through the recording and reporting of financial transactions in a manner consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and legally mandated standards; and serve all users of the city's computer systems, Geographical Information System (GIS), and telephone system

Finance Department Goals

The departmental goals are to:
  • Participate in the development of sound fiscal policies
  • Provide sound fiscal management for the city
  • Maintain a high credit bond rating
  • Provide for the management and investment of available funds consistent with criteria for safety, liquidity, and rate of return

Customer Service Division

Located on the first floor at City Hall, Customer Service falls under the umbrella of the Finance Department and can help with a variety of items.
  • New Water Account Setup
  • Collection of Hotel/Motel Tax
  • Collection of ambulance bill payments
  • Issue Toll Tags - New Accounts set up at Customer Service Window Only
