FBTX ~ After months of public discussion, a new brush and bulky pickup schedule will begin in Farmers Branch on February 1, designed to divert clean brush from the landfill, thereby extending the life of the City-owned Camelot Landfill.
Under the new schedule, bulk items will be picked up once a month, during the first full week. Brush will be picked up the other three weeks of the month. Plus, that collection for brush and bulk will be on residents’ scheduled recycling days.
“By changing the schedule, more clean brush will be diverted to a mulching and composting facility,” explained Sustainability and Public Health Director Shane Davis. “This means more space in the landfill and more sustainable solid waste practices.”
Residents west of Interstate 35E will receive all solid waste services, including trash, brush and bulk pickup on Wednesdays, beginning February 1.
“This change achieves two City Council objectives with fewer days per month with bulk items on the curb and a longer life for our City-owned landfill,” Mr. Davis said. “However, we recognize that this change to our brush and bulky pickup schedule will take some getting used to.”
Residents are reminded that items for pickup should not be put out earlier than 6 p.m. the night before their service day.
