Imagine going to a place that fills you and your family with nostalgia and Christmas cheer! A place that helps you forget about the hustle and bustle of the world. Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Department provides the community with such a place through "Christmas in the Branch". "Christmas in the Branch" is a one-of-a-kind Christmas experience with 50 days of Christmas-related activities. Skate outdoors at our outdoor skating rink, take a stroll through the festive lights of Santa's Village, shop for a unique Christmas gift at our Holiday Marketplace at the Grove! Our various facilities and parks are also hosting Christmas-related activities! From a Charles Dickens themed Christmas at the Farmers Branch Historical Park to a doggy-friendly Christmas at the Barney Wood Park and Farmers Branch Recreation Center, there is a way for everyone to get into the Christmas spirit right here in Farmers Branch.

Skating Under the Stars

Conveniently located at the corner of I-35E and 635, our outdoor ice skating rink is sure to help you skate into the Christmas spirit!

Skating Under the Stars - FREE Admission for Residents Days

November 29 - December 1; December 7, 14 and 21  | 2:00 p.m. to Midnight | Free for Residents* | Children's Health StarCenter

On this day, Farmers Branch residents can skate at our outdoor ice skating rink for FREE! In the case of inclement weather, please contact the StarCenter front desk to verify the outdoor ice rink is open at 214.432.3131

*Farmers Branch residents get free skating admission on select dates with proof of residency. A valid ID with a current Farmers Branch address must be provided at check out. Skate rental not included. Limit four per household. 


Bah Humbug! A Children's Christmas

December 6 | 10 a.m. to Noon | $2 per person* | Farmers Branch Historical Park

Don’t be a Scrooge! Come for a holly-jolly time and enjoy Christmas crafts and activities inside our historic structures; and, as always, a snack! 

*This event is recommended for ages 3-6. Space is limited and registration is required. Both parent and child must register.

Dickens of Christmas - Exhibit Tours

December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21 | 2:30 - 3:30 p.m., 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.* | Free** | Farmers Branch Historical Park

See a literary classic come to life with the holiday exhibit, A Christmas Carol: A Celebration of Christmas Past. Join Ebenezer Scrooge on his journey visiting the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Tours are free and require no registration. Don't be a humbug, come join us on a Christmas tour! 

*Our evening tour is lantern-led and is only offered on December 6, 13 & 20!

Howliday Pawty and Christmas Open House

December 6 | 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. | Free | Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center and Barney Wood Bark Park

Join us for a furr-tastic, doggy-friendly evening with Santa, crafts, entertainment, strolling carolers, storytime with Mrs. Claus, dance recital, fitness equipment and class demonstrations, refreshments, and opportunities to support local dog-friend organizations and more.


A Christmas Carol Teas

December 7, 14 | 1 - 2:15 p.m., 3:30 - 4:45 p.m. | $40 per person or $30 per Friend of the Historical Park member | Farmers Branch Historical Park

Enjoy an afternoon of live harp music, delectable treats, Christmas décor, and of course, tea. Space is limited and preregistration is required by calling 972.406.0184


Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Marketplace

December 7 | 5 - 9 p.m. | Free | Liberty Plaza and The Grove @ Mustang Crossing

Welcome the yuletide with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Liberty Plaza. There will be an outdoor ice skating, fun activities for children, festive holiday music featuring local schools and theaters, and the lighting of the Christmas Tree with Santa Claus himself. Grab something to eat while enjoying a classic holiday movie. Shop local vendors for unique handmade/homemade gifts at our Holiday Marketplace at the Grove.

"A Dickens of a Dinner": Progressive Dinner in the Park

December 13 | 7 - 9 p.m. | $50 per person* | Farmers Branch Historical Park

Come to our second annual progressive pop up dinner and celebrate Christmas Past at the Historical Park. Sample canapés and cocktails as you tour the historic structures. As you stroll the grounds, enjoy Victorian Christmas carolers courtesy of Vocal Magic and characters from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol provided by Firehouse Theater. The evening concludes with a traditional Victorian dinner and dessert prepared by Cedar Creek Brewhouse and Eatery in the Dodson House. The event will require some low-impact walking outdoors.

*This event is for ages 18 and up and ages 21 and up will be served alcohol with a valid ID.

Pancakes & Pajamas

December 14 | 9 - 11 a.m. | $5 per person for Members of the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center or $8 for the General Public | Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center

Wear your PJs and come to the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center for a Christmas-themed pancake breakfast! Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making a visit. There's also a holiday craft to make!

Holiday Marketplace at the Grove

Celebrate the holiday season by shopping at the Marketplace, Skating Under the Stars, letting the kids enjoy activities and remember to see Santa! 


The Clock Strikes Noon

December 27 | 10 a.m. to Noon | $15 per person* | Farmers Branch Historical Park

Ring in the New Year at the Farmers Branch Historical Park with your little ones at a reasonable hour. The morning will be filled with crafts, snacks and celebrating 2020 at noon!

*This event is for ages 5 - 12. Four-year-olds are allowed to register with a registered sibling. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
